His papers include miscellaneous official correspondence, partial manuscripts for histories he prepared, including U.S.-British Naval Cooperation 1900-1942; Administrative History of Commander Naval Forces in Europe; U.S.-French Naval Relations, 1942-1944; and portions of History of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in World War II. Some of the working material on which these histories were based is present as well.

Captain Tracy Barrett Kittredge, who retired in 1955, served during both World Wars on the staff of Commander Naval Forces Europe. He also served on the historical section of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as senior naval member, and lectured in foreign policy and military history at Princeton and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
